Hipsters, Drifters, Stoners and Loners...

http://mb.mercedes-benz.com/en/article/58/Hipsters%2C+Drifters%2C+Stoners+and+Loners

With his new exhibition Somewhere Place American prodigy Ryan McGinley proves that pure innocence can indeed be a provocation.
A back entirely covered in scratches; two bodies against the fiery evening sky; a teenager cradling a wolf cub. The protagonists of Ryan McGinley’s photographs are invariably young and naked. They reveal – and revel in – an intimate and liberating portrait of an America that awaits the rediscovery of its own innocence and insecurity. (In)famous for his excessive productions, created during week-long cross-continental road trips with a coterie of youngsters, McGinley has filled thousands of rolls of film staging the bodies of young people in dramatically surreal and dreamlike tableaux. A superficial spectator, suffering from sensory overload, might consider this an attempt at scandalous provocation. McGinley’s avowed commitment to beauty, vitality and youthful hedonism, however, transforms his work into the testament of a new American generation. In their nudity and innocence, they continue the dream of boundless freedom.

It all began in the 1990s with biographic Polaroid documentaries of Manhattan’s skater, graffiti and gay scenes. Over time, McGinley’s shots and situations started to feature more and more staged events and choreographies without ever losing their sense of spontaneity. With his latest work, the photographer explores novel ground: switching to the studio, he joins his fearless models in a range of visual adventures involving a range of docile – and decidedly dangerous – animals.

Fashion Blog of the Moment...

Artist Statement:
I don’t use cut in its traditional interpretation at all – every piece is based on simple geometrical forms such as squares, rectangles or triangles. This method allows to create very unusual and recognizable look. Another important thing is the ability to use the whole piece of fabric with almost no scarps, so it’s environmentally friendly at the same time. I explore the space between fashion and art in my works. While I was studying at an Art school, I often used to imagine three-dimensional objects which I needed to portray on two-dimensional surface of paper as a polyhedrons composed of polygons. It really helps me to understand and feel the beauty of the shapes still. And I want to share this experience through fashion.

If Miss Iris Approves....

Iris Apfel, fashionista extraordinaire, has been pictured in 100's of magazines and recently her wardrobe (more like a rare fashion collection) is on exhibition at various museums. She was recently photographed by famous fashion photographer Bruce Weber and I am her newest and biggest fan. I just want to get a glass of vino with this lady, share some stories and maybe some bangles ;)  **Note her adorable husband who I am equally fascinated by**

Recently she was pictured with jewelry designer Alexis Bittar... his newest collection is amazing but my heart belongs to his Miss Havisham (what a cute play on the character in the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations) Miss Havisham was the  wealthy spinster, who lived in her ruined mansion with her adopted daughter, Estella.. but enough with that! Check out the jewels... and please check out Apfel's exhibition: A Rare Bird of Fashion. = http://www.pem.org/exhibitions/21-rare_bird_of_fashion_the_irreverent_iris_apfel

MOCA Shanghai: Follow

I was just in Shanghai this past week and was able to fit in a few mususems inlcuding the Shanghai Art Museum, MOCA, and the Liuli Museum (mainly glass works). They were each very unqiue.. MOCA had some of the more difficult work without a doubt. Here are some works that continued up the stairs of the museum. There are so many talented artists in Shanghai... definitely check it out if you are in town.
